先日、ウクライナの祝日についてブログに書いたら
「イヴァナ・クパラの日」ってどんな祝日？
という質問がありましたので、ちょっと説明してみますね！
Ivana Kupala Holiday is traditionally celebrated by Eastern Slavs on June 24 (July 7).
This holiday symbolizes the birth of the summer sun – Kupalo.
It was devoted to the summer solstice and the highest peak of nature flowering.
After the adoption of Christianity, the holiday was devoted to John the Baptist’s birthday (June 24).
According to the new style, his birthday takes place later (July 7).
The holiday includes the following rituals: lighting a fire, jumping over the fire (it was believed that the fire has a purification function), rolling fire wheels, swimming (water was also associated with purification).
There is the legend about the bloom of a fern flower this night.
People believed that the herbs collected during Ivan Kupala night possess special powers.
There are also tradition of weaving wreaths and guessing on wax.
Many customs on Ivana Kupala are associated with the world of plants.
People did not sleep the whole night on Ivana Kupala, they danced around the fire and jumped over it.
This holiday still remains among the most important holidays for the Slavs.

人々はイヴァナ・クパラで一晩中眠らず、火の周りで踊り、飛び越えたりします。
この休日は、今でもスラブ人にとって最も重要な休日の 1 つなのです。
